vmware - Redhat - X-Server Problem

Hallo,

erstmal vorneweg, ich bin ein Linux Anfänger.

Ich habe auf meinem Windows XP unter vmware versucht Redhat zu installieren, funktionierte auch alles einwandfrei, bis ich dann Linux startete. Statt ein gewünschtes grafisches Login-Fenseter, flackerte lediglich der Text im vmware fenster 3mal (als ob man die Bildwiederholfrequenz unter windows ändert) und es erscheint ein Text-Login. Naja hab mich dann mal eingeloggt und mit "startx" versucht den X-Server zu starten, dieser meldete mir (nach bildflackern) -> Fatal Server error: no screens found

Nun die Frage, wie muss ich meine XF86Config richtig konfigurieren, sodass ich eine grafische Anzeige hinbekomme und der X-Server läuft ?

Hier meine XF86Config vom Redhat Linux (Hab halt mal meine richtige Grafikkarte angegeben im Setup, wobei vmware ja eine andere Karte emuliert ?!)

hast du schonmal versucht mit sax2 die grafikeinstellungen durchzuführen?

als root einloggen - in der kommandozeile sax2 eingeben ... damit müsstest du eigentlich klarkommen, und ich denke das es auch unter vmware funzt

bin jetz als root angemeldet und tipp "sax2" ein, dann kommt dass er den command nich finden kann :-/

lad dir das mal runter.

dann "rpm -i sax2-4.7-171.i586.rpm" und danach solltest du sax2 nutzen können

hmm da kommen jetz haufenweise fehler, z.b.:

hm ... kannst ja höchstens schaun ob du dann im verzeichnis

die ganzen fehlenden packages findest und die auch noch installieren ... wenn du zeit und lust dazu hast ...

aber mal was anderes, die fehlermeldung lautet:

Fatal Server error: no screens found

du sagst du hast die grafikkarte manuell geändert?

die grafikkarte steht in der section "screens" in der X86-config... was liegt näher als die ursprüngliche grafikkarte mal einzutragen?

habs mit der default, als auch mit meiner ATI Radeon versucht, aber hat beides nicht funktioniert. Es kommt immer der gleiche fehler.

Hab auch schon versucht die funktionierende Config vom SuSE in das Redhat zu kopieren, aber das hat auch nich funktioniert, denn bei SuSE funktioniert die grafische Oberfläche.

Hallo,

Hast Du die vmware tools für Linux installiert (dafür gibts im vmware Menü einen extra "Knopf")? Wenn ich mich richtig entsinne, werden diese benötigt damit X11 vernünftig funktioniert.

Die SuSe Tools sax und sax2 gibt es nicht unter Red Hat.

Warum hast Du ueberhaupt den erkannten Grafikkartenchipsatz geaendert?

Wenn alles nichts hilft, installiere den X Server erneut:

Folge dazu den Anweisungen der Datei $X11Dir$/doc/Install

(Der X Server ist meist unter /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/ zu finden)

hm ... hab noch nie mit rerdhat gearbeitet, aber ich bin mir sicher das sax2 da auch funzt wenn mans installiert ;o)
